The service
Costbrake reads usage and billing data from the cloud, AI and API providers you connect, shows what you spend, and alerts you when spend spikes, crosses a budget or is on track to pass one. On Pro and Team, admins can also turn on brakes (the killswitch) that stop spend at the source.
Accounts
You sign in with Google. Everything else lives in an organization: its connections, budgets, alerts and billing. Owners and admins decide who joins and with which role, and they are responsible for what members, API keys and the AI agents they approve do in the organization.
Keep your Google account secure, because anyone who can sign in as you can act as you. API keys are shown once and stored only as a hash, so revoke a key as soon as it leaks.
Connecting providers
Only connect accounts you are allowed to manage, with credentials you are allowed to share with us. Give each credential the narrowest access the setup asks for, and read-only access wherever the provider offers it.
We use read credentials only to read usage and billing data, and killswitch credentials only to run and undo the brakes you start. Your agreements with your providers still apply to those accounts. Disconnecting a provider deletes its credentials and spend data.
Plans
Costbrake has a Free plan and two paid plans, Pro and Team. Each plan sets how many connections, seats and budgets you get, which alert channels you can use, how often we sync and how much history we keep. Current limits and prices are on https://costbrake.com/pricing.
The free trial
Every new organization starts with a 14-day trial of Pro. No card is needed. There is one trial per person: organizations you create after your first trial start on Free.
If the organization hasn't moved to a paid plan when the trial ends, it moves to Free. Its 2 connections with the most spend this month stay active, and the others pause until you upgrade. Paused connections aren't deleted, but they stop syncing and alerting, and their killswitch is turned off. The Free limits then apply, including how much history we keep.
Payments
Pro and Team are subscriptions, billed monthly or yearly. Stripe sells the subscription to you as merchant of record and handles the payment, your invoices and sales tax or VAT. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
Owners and admins can cancel at any time in the billing portal, which opens from Settings in the dashboard. After you cancel, the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and then the organization moves to Free.
Fees are non-refundable except where the law says otherwise.
Brakes and killswitch
The killswitch comes with Pro and Team and stays off until an admin turns it on for a connection. A brake only runs when an admin starts and confirms it. It acts on your own provider account, with credentials you gave us, because you enabled it.
Brakes can take services offline or block traffic, so only use one when stopping the spend is worth that. We record what each brake changes so you can undo it, but providers can fail or change in the meantime, and work that is already running may finish and still be billed.
You are responsible for the brakes you turn on. We are not liable for downtime, lost traffic or other harm caused by a brake you enabled or started.
Alerts and figures
Our figures come from provider APIs that report late, round and revise their data, and some are estimates based on public list prices. They are not invoices: your provider's bill is what you owe.
Alerts are best effort. Provider data can lag, a provider's API can be down and a channel can reject our messages, so we can't promise to catch every spike or deliver every alert on time. We are not liable for spend we didn't catch, or for alerts that arrived late or not at all.
Acceptable use
Don't use Costbrake for:
- connecting accounts or credentials you are not authorized to use;
- sending alerts to people or systems that didn't ask for them;
- probing, overloading or attacking the service, or using it to attack anyone else;
- getting around plan limits, for example by creating extra accounts or organizations to get more trials;
- reselling Costbrake without our written permission.
Termination
You can stop using Costbrake at any time. Cancel your plan, disconnect your providers, and email bart@bitgate.com if you want your account deleted.
We may suspend or close accounts and organizations that break these terms, with or without notice. Organizations with unpaid or disputed subscriptions can be moved to Free.
No warranty
Costbrake is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time, and we offer no uptime guarantee or SLA.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, downtime and charges from your providers, whether or not an alert or a brake could have prevented them.
Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that the law doesn't allow us to exclude.
Changes
We may update these terms, and the date at the top shows when. Using Costbrake after a change means you accept the new version.
